National Guardsmen from the company of strike unmanned aerial systems (RUBpAK) "Bolgarichi" conducted a special operation to rescue animals from the temporarily occupied left-bank Kherson region. Six cats traveled more than 10 kilometers through the sky in a special cage attached to a heavy bomber drone.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported on the mission codenamed "Tigers" with reference to the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pivnenko.
Local residents of the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky helped organize the evacuation. They placed the animals in a cage specially designed for this task. After that, soldiers of the 11th brigade named after M. Hrushevsky of the National Guard transported the container by air across the Dnieper using a heavy UAV.
The route ran across a river, and the total distance of the flight was over 10 km. All six cats reached the controlled territory safe and sound. The National Guard noted that the animals survived the flight well and will soon find new homes for them.
Oleshki is a Russian-occupied town just 9 kilometers from Kherson. The town is under blockade by Russian troops, food supplies have been cut off since May, and the roads and surrounding area are mined. Residents survive on their own vegetable garden, go to neighboring villages for food at the risk of drone strikes, or cook soups from wild herbs.
About 2,000 people remain in Oleshki, including almost 50 children. Earlier, National Guard troops conducted a second operation to deliver 4 tons of humanitarian aid to the city using drones.
