During April-August, 23,448 men over the age of 30 were dismissed from Ukrainian institutions of higher education, Deputy Minister of Education Mykhailo Vynnytskyi said.
«Reasons for expulsion are failure to succeed, absence from classes, etc. 5,805 applicants were excluded directly from the results of inspections by the State Education Quality Service, the rest — based on the results of the internal systems of ensuring the quality of education of the universities themselves,» the official wrote.
He called the results of such measures «encouraging».
«Obviously, those expelled are those „students“ who did not really plan to be students, but wanted to use this status to avoid other responsibilities. The fact that they no longer exist in the higher education system is a sign that the system is self-purifying,» Vynnytskyi believes.
It is reported that the police have opened 8 criminal proceedings against officials of higher education institutions, and the Ministry of Education has revoked the educational activity licenses of a number of higher education institutions, where «massively enrolled men of draft age, publicly declaring their rates.»
We will remind, in June it became known that this year’s number of entrants became a record, exceeding 200,000 people. Since 2021, the number of men over the age of 30 entering universities on a paid basis has increased by 23 times. The reason for this is that student status guarantees deferment from mobilization during martial law.
