According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, his American counterpart Donald Trump has finally made a final decision to transfer to Ukraine a license to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
Zelensky said this on September 25 during an audio interview with journalists, "Left Bank" reports .
"President Trump emphasized that, yes, I have made the final decision — Ukraine will receive licenses for the production of Patriot missiles," Zelensky noted, confirming the existence of specific agreements on this matter.
Zelensky received this assurance from Trump at a meeting on September 22.
At the same time, it is still unknown when Ukraine will receive the licenses.
Recall that the issue of transferring such a license to Ukraine has been discussed for a considerable period of time. Recently, Trump stated that Ukraine could receive a license to produce missiles for Patriot air defense systems, but this would be “the least modern version of them.”
The US Department of Defense stated that it was studying possible options for granting Ukraine a license to produce interceptor missiles for Patriot, but it is too early to name specific dates for the launch of Ukrainian production due to the complexity of certifying local capacities.
Some media outlets reported that the launch of Patriot missile production in Ukraine would take years.
