Zelensky: "Ukraine is creating strike drones-interceptors to protect energy infrastructure"

Ukraine is developing a new type of drones — interceptors — that will counter Russian drone attacks on energy facilities, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a speech at the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit.
This is reported by Ukrainian News Agency with reference to the statements of the President of Ukraine during his speech at yesterday’s summit. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the critical infrastructure protection system. According to him, the government is investing significant resources in the defense of energy facilities, in particular, in air defense systems and modern technologies for combating drones.
A key element of the new defensive arsenal will be specialized drones capable of intercepting enemy drones. Although Zelensky did not disclose the technical characteristics of these UAVs, he emphasized that the project is already in the works and is aimed specifically at protecting the energy system from attacks by Russian strike drones, which regularly damage infrastructure in various regions of the country.
«We are not just restoring what is damaged, we are actively creating something new, including new types of weapons,» the head of state noted.
He also added that resources for energy protection are always limited, so the state is forced to look for technological solutions that will ensure maximum efficiency under limited conditions.
It is currently unknown who exactly is developing the interceptors — state defense enterprises or private manufacturers who are actively participating in the development of the drone industry in Ukraine.
Since the start of the full-scale war, the Russian military has repeatedly attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure with kamikaze drones, in particular the Shahed-136. In response, Ukraine has significantly stepped up the development of its own unmanned fleet, in particular strike and reconnaissance drones. At the same time, there is growing interest in interceptor drones, which can provide an effective alternative to traditional air defense systems in resource-constrained environments.
