During the Xbox Games Showcase presentation, Ukrainian studio 4A Games presented the first gameplay trailer for the shooter Metro 2039. The new part of the franchise will be released in February 2027.
The nearly three-minute video is entirely made up of footage shot directly in the game. The trailer showcases a return to classic stealth action in confined spaces, tunnel and surface exploration, and signature survival mechanics. Among the new features in the arsenal are a new silent weapon called the "Connector" and a special explosive device for tactical assault on premises.
The plot of the new part revolves around the confrontation with the new ideological leader of the Moscow metro, Hunter. According to the developers, the former legendary ranger of the Order of Sparta has turned into a fanatical dictator through lies and propaganda.
The main character of the game will be the Stranger, who seeks to destroy the new regime. The protagonist believes that Hunter has betrayed his own ideals and turned into the same enemy that the Spartans fought before.
Metro 2039 is scheduled for release in February 2027. The game will be available on current-generation consoles Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5, as well as on PC through the digital stores Steam and Epic Games Store.
