Maybe you’re now a “builder” or your role has been added to “forward-deployed.” Claude Code creator Boris Cherny believes that areas such as development, product, and design are merging into one. And his own team could become an example of “what jobs will look like in the future.”
According to Business Insider, Cherny's team consists of 5 archetypes:
“The Prototyper”: These employees create new ideas, “many of which never make it to release.”
“The Builder”: These professionals turn the prototype into a “production-ready product.”
“Sweeper” / Optimizer (The Sweeper): they clean, simplify code, and optimize performance.
“Grower” / Developer (The Grower): These people scale and iterate existing products to better meet market needs.
“The Maintainer”: They ensure that the product remains “secure, reliable, fast, and efficient as it scales.”
Many employees of the Claude Code team combine several archetypes, Cherny noted.
According to him, a healthy team should contain a mix of all five types, although the balance itself may depend on the maturity and scale of the product.
