After testing in Lviv, 5G mobile communication technology will be tested in Kharkiv and Borodyanka this fall. Previously, the second stage planned to test only in Kyiv and Odessa.
«Before the full launch, we will test how 5G works in cities that have suffered from shelling and have partially destroyed infrastructure. Here the technology will pass the most difficult test — work in conditions of possible power outages and limited resources,» the Ministry of Digital Transformation said.
According to First Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs Mykhailo Fedorov, specialists will also be able to assess the potential of 5G in urban reconstruction. He cited the implementation of smart solutions for municipalities and digital services as an example.
It was previously reported that the final shutdown of 3G in Ukraine and the transition to 5G is scheduled for December 31, 2030. The Ministry of Digital Transformation believes that a specific date for the termination of 3G support allows operators to more clearly plan the modernization of networks, avoid technological lag, and facilitate the transition of subscribers to modern communication standards.
«This will happen step by step so that you do not experience sudden changes. New technologies will provide faster Internet and more stable communication, and the operation of networks will become even more efficient», — Fedorov noted.
