£70 million for 350 air defense missiles. Britain announced for the first time that it would use frozen Russian money to purchase weapons for Ukraine

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine, which, in particular, includes 350 missiles for air defense systems.

According to The Guardian, the peculiarity of this aid package is that it will be paid for by the interest received by the UK from frozen Russian assets.

«Russia, not Ukraine, should pay the price for Putin’s barbaric and illegal war. It is right that we are using captured Russian assets to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences. Ukraine’s security is vital to our own,» Starmer said earlier, speaking ahead of the annual NATO summit in The Hague.

The purchase of the missiles will use £70 million in interest earned by the UK on Russia-related funds, and this will be the first case of direct financing of weapons for Kyiv from the assets of an aggressor country.

The missiles will, in particular, be provided for the Raven systems supplied by the United Kingdom.

The new package is part of the UK’s annual commitment to Ukraine — £4.5 billion in military aid per year.

dev.ua previously reported that cyber experts from the UK and 10 other countries have exposed a Russian intelligence cyber campaign aimed at Western logistics and technology companies involved in delivering foreign military aid to Ukraine.

Last fall, the United Kingdom allocated more than $9.5 million for the purchase of strike and reconnaissance drones within the Drone Coalition.
