“The smartest creatures on the planet can also be the most wrong.” Google and Anthropic executives discussed the future of AI with philosopher Yuval Harari in Davos
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, the heads of Anthropic and Google DeepMind, and philosopher Yuval Harari spoke at the Davos Economic Forum about their vision and concerns about artificial intelligence.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, the heads of Anthropic and Google DeepMind, and philosopher Yuval Harari spoke at the Davos Economic Forum about their vision and concerns about artificial intelligence.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella believes that the use of artificial intelligence is beneficial, Euronews reports.
«We, as a global community, have to get to the point where we can use [AI] for something useful that will transform the lives of people, communities, countries and industries,» Nadella said.
He warned that AI adoption will be unevenly distributed across the world, limited primarily by access to capital and infrastructure.
To realize the potential of AI, «necessary conditions» are needed, mainly attracting investment and creating supporting infrastructure, the Microsoft chief believes. While big tech companies are «investing everywhere, including in the global south,» success depends on policies that attract both public and private capital.
Critical infrastructure such as electrical grids «is largely dependent on governments,» he said, and private companies can only operate effectively once basic systems such as energy and telecommunications networks are in place.
Canadian computer scientist and one of the so-called «fathers of AI» Joshua Bengio warned that modern systems are learning too closely to human models.
«Many people interact with them, mistakenly believing that they [AI] are like us. And the smarter we make them, the more that will be the case, and there are people who want them to be like us… But it’s not clear whether that will be good,» he said.
According to him, humanity has developed norms and psychology for interacting with other people, but «AIs are not truly human.»
Popular author and philosopher Yuval Noah Harari has warned against superintelligent AI, or AGI, defined as artificial intelligence that surpasses human cognitive abilities. He pointed out that humanity «has no experience in building a hybrid human-AI society,» and called for humility and a «correction mechanism» if something goes wrong.
«The smartest creatures on the planet can also be the most fallible,» Harari said.
Anthropic CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei said the development of AI is exciting and that humanity is «knocking on the door of incredible possibilities.» However, the next few years will be critical for how we regulate and govern this technology.
He talked about what will happen after the advent of AGI, when AI matches or surpasses human cognitive abilities, over which humans may lose control.
Amodei said that «stopping selling chips to China is one of the most important decisions» we can make to «buy time to solve the problem,» referring to the loss of control over AI. He also spoke of the «serious» consequences for US leadership in AI that could arise from selling Nvidia H200 AI chips to China.
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
