Some employees have reported that the artificial intelligence tools they are encouraged to use are creating erroneous code, as well as other hallucinations that need to be fixed, Futurism reports .
AI is creating more work for EA developers, not less, at a time when game development is already suffering from crunches and mass layoffs. Employees are also concerned that they are being forced to train AI programs to do their jobs. One former senior design quality assurance employee said he suspects the company fired him this spring because AI could have done at least some of his work summarizing tester feedback.
Electronic Arts employees are taking several AI training courses and are encouraged to view the technology as a “partner,” according to internal documents. They are even given tips on how to use chatbots to learn how to work with subordinates who are not achieving the desired results.
"Artificial intelligence in various forms has always been central to this creative journey. We all remember playing against AI, and it evolved into today's innovations in generative AI," Electronic Arts CEO and chairman Andrew Wilson told investors last year.
EA later acknowledged that the use of artificial intelligence "may raise social and ethical concerns that, if not properly addressed, could lead to legal and reputational harm, loss of consumer trust in our business and brands, and negatively impact our financial and operating results."
