Alibaba announced a new AI chip and a large-scale expansion of data centers

Chinese tech giant Alibaba unveiled its new Zhenwu V900 artificial intelligence chip and announced plans to significantly expand its global data center network. The company's shares rose about 3% on the Hong Kong stock exchange.

As reported by CNBC, the presentation took place during the annual conference of the company's cloud division Apsara in Hangzhou. According to the developers, the performance of the new generation of AI processors Zhenwu V900 is three times higher than its predecessor - the M890 model, which was released only in May this year.

The Zhenwu V900 is scheduled for mass production and commercial release in the first quarter of 2027. Currently, the company's previous versions of the chips are already used by more than 650 customers in industries such as automotive, finance, energy and manufacturing. In addition to the hardware, the developers reported that their next artificial intelligence model, Qwen 4, is currently in the training stage. In the future, the line will also be expanded to Qwen 4.5 and Qwen 5.

In parallel, the company plans to increase the global capacity of its Alibaba Cloud data centers to more than 20 gigawatts by 2032. Alibaba Group CEO Eddie Wu compared the current stage of AI development to the early stages of electrification. According to him, machine thinking has huge room for growth, and programming with artificial intelligence is just “a light bulb in the era of machine intelligence.”
