As of April 2026, 24 Ukrainian enterprises have received the status of authorized to perform air defense tasks. Companies from different regions of the country are forming fire groups at their own expense to protect production facilities and reduce the burden on regular units of the Defense Forces.
According to the Ministry of Defense, businesses of various forms of ownership from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Poltava, Transcarpathia and other regions have joined the initiative. There are no geographical restrictions for participation in the project. In total, 43 applications for the creation of air defense groups have been submitted to the Ministry of Defense.
The main condition is the desire to protect its facilities and the availability of appropriate resources. In particular, the participating company must have personnel who are ready to undergo special training and finances to purchase the necessary weapons or equipment.
Scaling up this practice directly contributes to strengthening the country's overall air defense system. By protecting their own premises and personnel, private air defense groups effectively hold defenses at designated boundaries. This provides additional protection for nearby civilian structures and people, and allows the Defense Forces to more effectively reallocate their resources to critical areas.
Previously, dev.ua already wrote about the concept of air defense as a service , within which Ukrainian business creates a private shield from enemy drones under the patronage of the state.
