“This is our most successful fundraiser”. Amanita Design ends game profit-sharing campaign that angers Russians

Czech indie studio Amanita Design has wrapped up a charity campaign in which it will donate profits from all of its projects and DLC to the People in Need fund, which helps Ukrainians affected by the full-scale invasion.

Because of this, Russian players have been showering Amanita Design’s projects with negative reviews on Steam, but the Ukrainian community has responded with a barrage of positive reviews.

«The fundraiser has just ended — and we can already say that this is our most successful fundraiser. Thank you very much to everyone!», — the Czech developers wrote on their social networks.

Later, Amanita Design, which specializes in small atmospheric quests, clarified that they managed to raise $68,000 for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Earlier, the Czech studio’s action did not please Russian gamers who support the war against Ukraine, and they began writing negative reviews of its games on Steam, engaging in so-called review bombing. This lowered the rating of Samorost 3 and some other Amanita Design projects.

Despite the fact that this is not the first time the developers have raised funds for humanitarian aid to Ukrainians affected by the full-scale Russian invasion, players from the Russian Federation accused Amanita Design of supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and «inciting the conflict».

In the first days of the campaign, Russians managed to lower the recent ratings of several Amanita Design projects, but later Ukrainian players added dozens of positive reviews and returned the ratings to the «mostly favorable» mark.

«A small spark ignites a big flame. The Ukrainian community highly appreciates your support. Thank you for your action — every contribution matters», — wrote a player with the nickname Whiskey in his positive review of Samorost 3.

A similar situation has occurred on the pages of other Amanita Design projects. Currently, Chuchel and Botanicula have received low, recent mixed reviews.

The Czech studio is currently working on a new project, Phonopolis. It is a story-driven puzzle game set in a 3D world made of hand-painted cardboard. The game does not yet have a release date, but it is known that it will have Ukrainian localization.
