The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has banned Kyivstar, Vodafone and lifecell from calling tariff plans that artificially reduce mobile Internet speed "unlimited". What operators must change
The Antimonopoly Committee recommended that all three mobile operators operating in Ukraine — Kyivstar, Vodafone, and lifecell — properly inform consumers about tariff plans that contain restrictions on mobile Internet speed after using a certain amount of traffic, and not call them «unlimited Internet.»
This was reported by the Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine Pavlo Kyrylenko in his Facebook post, noting that such recommendations are mandatory to be implemented within a month.
The Chairman of the AMCU added that after using a fixed amount of Internet traffic in a number of tariffs, operators significantly reduce the speed of mobile Internet — «to a level that may complicate or limit the full use of online services.»
At the same time, although information about such restrictions is provided by operators, it is usually implemented either in small print, or in additional reference materials, or via hyperlinks.
«At the stage of making a decision on activating a certain tariff plan, this may lead to the consumer expecting the absence of any restrictions, including in terms of the speed of data transmission/reception,» the head of the antimonopoly authority emphasizes.
At the same time, the AMCU established that mobile operators have separate tariff plans without restrictions on mobile Internet speed after using a certain amount of traffic, but they are significantly more expensive.
Thus, the state body requires all three operators to stop actions that «contain signs of spreading inaccurate information about unlimited mobile Internet.»
