Anthropic is making it easier for patients and doctors to access medical information through Claude. Anthropic announced on Sunday the launch of a new healthcare offering for its Claude product. It complies with the HIPAA health data privacy law, allowing hospitals, healthcare providers and consumers to use it to process protected health information, Bloomberg reports .
For regular users, Anthropic allows you to export health data from apps like Apple Health and Function Health, which can help people collect and share their medical records with their doctors.
Last week, Anthropic competitor OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health, a medical AI that lets users connect medical records and health apps to a chatbot. All of these releases underscore AI companies’ desire to gain a foothold in healthcare to drive sales and prove the broad benefits of AI.
“When we look at the economy as a whole and the areas where AI can have the most impact, medicine is really a prime candidate for this — given the right regulatory and data actions,” said Mike Krieger, chief product officer at Anthropic and co-founder of Instagram. Krieger said the new tools are designed to “empower people with more knowledge, both from their own data and from conversations with healthcare professionals.”
It should also be added that Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, is a biophysicist by training.
The company said that Banner Health, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare networks in the United States, already has more than 22,000 healthcare professionals using Claude, with 85% of them reporting faster and more accurate results. Anthropic also works with clients including Novo Nordisk A/S and Stanford Health Care.
Anthropic says the system's medical answers are based on citations from reputable publications like PubMed and the NPI Registry, giving doctors more confidence in the results. The company also said it will not use healthcare user data to train its models.
Recall that Google limited AI Overviews for some medical queries after the scandal with "incorrect standards" of tests.
