«In November, Claude Code reached a significant milestone: just six months after launching, its revenue reached $1 billion. And today, we are announcing that Anthropic is acquiring Bun — a revolutionary JavaScript execution platform — to further accelerate Claude Code’s development,» the company said.
Bun offers a versatile set of programming tools that combines code execution, package management, bundling, and testing.
«Bun has improved the JavaScript and TypeScript developer experience by optimizing reliability, speed, and usability. For those using Claude Code, this acquisition means higher performance, improved stability, and new features. Together, we will continue to make Bun the best JavaScript runtime for all developers, while creating even better workflows in Claude Code,» Anthropic says.
The company claims that since its launch in May 2025, «Claude Code has evolved from an internal engineering experiment into a critical tool» for many global companies, including Netflix, Spotify, KPMG, L’Oreal, and Salesforce, and Bun «played a key role in scaling its infrastructure.»
Anthropic and Bun have been collaborating for many months, including to quickly complete tasks for the Claude Code team and launch the native Claude Code installer.
Bun founder Jared Sumner said the startup’s product will remain open source and MIT licensed. It will continue to be developed by the same team and will be publicly available on GitHub.
«Claude Code is shipped as a Bun executable to millions of users. If Bun fails, Claude Code fails too. Anthropic has a direct incentive to maintain the high quality of Bun,» Sumner noted.
Recall that at the end of November, Anthropic announced its newest artificial intelligence model, Claude Opus 4.5, which, according to the developers, is particularly adept at programming.
