Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17 lineup. Among them is the thinnest iPhone in history. We talk about prices and specifications
Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 17 line, which includes four models: the basic iPhone 17, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air (instead of the Plus), the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. A thinner body, Apple Intelligence AI features, improved cameras, and battery life are the key innovations in the line.
The new models have the A19 Bionic chip (in the Pro — A19 Pro) with a 3-nm process technology, 12 GB of RAM in all (for better AI support), integration with iOS 26 (Liquid Glass interface with a transparent design, improved Siri with Gemini-like features).
Display — ProMotion 120 Hz LTPO OLED in all models, and for the first time not only in Pro, smaller frames, brightness up to 2000 nits, Always-On. Support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 (Apple’s own chip) and 5G RedCap for faster communication.
Cameras — 48 MP in all models, 8K@60fps video, as well as a new AI mode for vlogging (auto-stabilization, real-time effects). Front camera 24 MP with metalens for Face ID (narrower Dynamic Island). All models shoot 8K and have AI features.
Magnetic charging with cutout area (new design for wireless charging), USB-C 3.2, allows you to watch up to 30+ hours of video.
The new phones have IP68 protection, titanium in the Pro, integration with AirPods Pro 3 for health (heart rate).
All iPhone 17 models have deep integration with Apple Intelligence, which runs on iOS 26. This is not just an «improved Siri,» but a whole set of AI features:
Real-time Live Translate for calls and chats that syncs with AirPods Pro 3 to translate conversations (e.g. Ukrainian English right in your ear).
AI Video Coach: a new feature for vloggers — automatically suggests angles, stabilizes the frame, and adds effects in real time (especially cool for TikTok/YouTube).
Health Insights: AI analyzes data from Apple Watch and AirPods Pro 3 (heart rate, temperature) and provides personalized advice (e.g., «reduce exercise intensity» or «check blood pressure»).
Liquid Glass UI: iOS 26 borrows a transparent interface from visionOS, making the icon menu more futuristic and immersive.
Gesture Control: All models support touchless gestures via the front camera with metalens (e.g., wave to accept a call). This paves the way for integration with Vision Pro, especially for the Air and Pro models.
Satellite SOS. A feature previously exclusive to the Pro, now available on all iPhone 17 models. Allows you to send SOS messages via satellite in areas without communication (useful for hiking in the Carpathians, for example).
The base model and Air are made from 100% recycled aluminum, and the Pro/Pro Max are made from 90% recycled titanium. The packaging is plastic-free, with only recycled cardboard.
The iPhone 17 Air is the thinnest smartphone in the company’s history — just 5.6 mm.
The Pro and Pro Max cameras now support 10-bit HDR for better color reproduction in video, which is ideal for professional editing in Final Cut Pro.
Spatial Video (3D video for Vision Pro) is now available on all models, not just the Pro, thanks to the improved 48MP ultra-wide sensor.
The new Night Mode is 30% faster thanks to AI processing that reduces noise in photos in low light.
The iPhone 17 Air, despite lacking a telephoto sensor, has a unique feature — AI Zoom Enhance, which uses machine learning to digitally zoom up to 5x without significant loss of quality.
Pre-orders will open on September 12 at 3:00 PM Kyiv time, and sales will start on September 19.
iPhone 17 Air wins in portability (ultra-thin, lightweight), but the base iPhone 17 is more compact in size. Pro/Pro Max are premium with titanium, but heavier. All models with thinner bezels and a new charging design.
The Pro Max holds a charge for up to 39 hours.
The base model costs $799, Air — $899, Pro — $1099, and Pro Max — $1199.
By the way, Apple has hinted that under-display Face ID may appear in the iPhone 18 (2026). Apple also announced that in 2026 the iPhone 17 Pro Ultra will be released with IR cameras for air gestures and even closer integration with Vision Pro.
