"The key gesture is shaking the smartphone." An iOS developer has released two apps to motivate children - separately for parents and, in fact, for children. How Shakendo and Shakendo Family work
iOS developer Oksana Fedorchuk has launched two related apps on the App Store — Shakendota and Shakendo Family. Both products solve the same problem — motivating children — but do so through a clear separation of roles and UX for different audiences.
iOS developer Oksana Fedorchuk has launched two related apps on the App Store — Shakendota and Shakendo Family. Both products solve the same problem — motivating children — but do so through a clear separation of roles and UX for different audiences.
According to the developer, instead of one universal application, she deliberately chose an approach with two separate apps — for parents and for children.
«I launched two apps instead of one. This is an important milestone for me — from idea to release on my own,» she wrote .
What is the idea of Shakendo?
Shakendo is an app for children built around the simplest and most playful interaction scenario possible.
The key gesture is to shake the smartphone. This is how the child receives tasks or messages from parents. No complicated menus, settings or text instructions — the interface is intentionally minimalistic and focused on intuitive interaction.
The application does not rely on gamification with points and ratings, but on simple action and reaction mechanics: shake the phone — receive a task or praise.
What is Shakendo Family?
Shakendo Family is a separate app for parents that acts as a control center.
In it you can:
create tasks for children;
send messages or encouragement;
manage activities without an overloaded interface.
The UX here is fundamentally different: a calm design, minimal visual noise, and quick access to key actions. The app doesn’t try to be «entertaining» — it focuses on control and ease of use.
Oksana notes that Shakendo and Shakendo Family work as a single ecosystem, but with clearly separated roles: parents manage the process and create tasks, and children interact with tasks through play and gesture.
This approach allowed us to adapt the interface and usage scenarios for different age groups without compromising the UX of one universal product.
