Elon Musk has said that his AI startup xAI will sue Apple because the company allegedly violates antitrust laws when it forms app ratings in the App Store.
“Apple is behaving in such a way that no AI company other than OpenAI can reach the top spot in the App Store, which is a clear violation of antitrust laws. xAI will take legal action immediately,” Musk wrote in X, without providing evidence to support his claims.
ChatGPT is currently ranked first in the "Best Free Apps" section of the App Store for iPhone in the US, while xAI's Grok is ranked fifth and Google's Gemini chatbot is ranked 57th, Reuters reports . ChatGPT also tops the rankings in the Google Play Store.
"Hey @Apple App Store, why are you refusing to put X or Grok in the Must-Have section when X is the #1 news app in the world and Grok is #5 among all apps? Are you playing politics?" Musk wrote in an earlier post on Monday.
It should be noted that Apple is working with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
