Apple has officially introduced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 processor. The company calls it «the next big step in the development of artificial intelligence on the Mac.» The laptop’s battery life has increased to 24 hours on a single charge.
According to Apple’s website, the new M5 chip features a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, delivering up to 3,5x faster performance in AI-related tasks and up to 1,6x faster graphics than the previous M4 model.
The device features a faster and more efficient processor, expanded memory bandwidth (over 150 GB/s), and up to 2x faster SSD. This speeds up app launch, processing large photo and video files, and working with large language models without an Internet connection.
The operating system is being updated to macOS Tahoe, with support for new AI features, Apple Intelligence integration, and more.
The M5 chip also significantly improves performance in AI tasks, from generating images from text to working with local models in applications like Draw Things and LM Studio. This provides noticeable acceleration in video editing, 3D rendering, data analysis and code compilation. The new chip has a 10-core GPU, and each core has a Neural Accelerator, which allows you to perform AI workloads more efficiently
Liquid Retina XDR display with optional matte nano-coating, 12MP camera with Center Stage, six speakers with Spatial Audio, a wide range of ports, Apple Intelligence support, and the new macOS Tahoe operating system.
Memory is another trump card: 153 GB/s, which is significantly higher than the 120 GB/s of the M4. SSDs can now be configured up to 4 TB, and the overall storage speed has increased.
The new MacBook Pro is made from 45% recycled materials, including 100% recycled aluminum and cobalt, and the packaging is all paper.
The starting price of the device is $1,599. Pre-orders opened on October 15, and the official start of sales is scheduled for October 22.
