Apple is preparing to release an updated version of its Mac mini desktop computer for the first time in nearly two years. The presentation of the new product could take place in the coming days, even before the traditional September event dedicated to the new iPhones.
According to Bloomberg, citing its own sources, Apple is testing versions of the computer based on M5 and M6 generation processors. The update comes amid a sharp increase in demand for the current Mac mini model, which has become a popular tool for locally running artificial intelligence applications.
According to the publication, the updated Mac mini will be part of a large-scale wave of releases in the second half of 2026. The company is expected to hold a large-scale presentation on September 9, where it will show its first folding smartphone, the iPhone 18 Pro line, the new Apple Watch Series 12 (including with a ceramic case), and updated basic AirPods 5 headphones.
Apple also plans to release its first smart home device with a screen that will use facial recognition to personalize content by the end of the year. Other expected new products include an updated iPad mini with an OLED screen (scheduled for October), new versions of the Apple TV and HomePod mini, and a base MacBook Pro with M6 chips.
The landmark event is expected to be the release of Apple's first-ever computers with touchscreens. This feature will be available on new MacBook Pro models in 14- and 16-inch form factors, which will also have an updated design and OLED displays.
The release of the new Mac mini will likely be the last high-profile event under Tim Cook, who will hand over the reins of CEO John Turnus on September 1. Turnus will oversee the launch of the foldable iPhone and other key products for the company in the coming years.
