In October, Apple intends to introduce an updated MacBook Pro with a touchscreen.
According to Bloomberg insider Mark Gurman, the new MacBook Pro will have both touch displays and OLED screens, and the gadget itself will finally appear after a significant delay — it was first announced in early 2023, promising a release by the end of 2025.
“But priorities changed, and the development of the supply chain took longer than expected. It is only now ready,” Gurman noted.
Apple’s new laptops will also get Dynamic Island, similar to the one on the iPhone, and an updated version of macOS Golden Gate, designed to better support touch input — similar to the iOS update in the iPhone Duo for this new form factor.
The MacBook Pro is also expected to be significantly lighter, though not noticeably thinner.
New high-end 14-inch and 16-inch laptops, codenamed K114 and K116, will be the centerpieces of Apple’s next big event, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, October 27.
In addition, Mark Gurman revealed a number of details about Apple’s new smart home product.
The centerpiece is a new smart home hub called HomeView. Equipped with a display and an A18 chip, the product essentially serves as a Siri command center for the Apple-powered home. It’s joined by two other devices: an updated HomePod mini with an S10 chip that extends voice control, music playback, and other features throughout the home, and a new Apple TV set-top box with a standard A19 chip.
HomeView will be available in two versions: a desktop model with a metal base for the speaker and a wall-mounted version with a flat square base that mounts to the wall below the display.
At the same time, in its "smart home" concept, Apple relies on a number of third-party accessories that connect to HomeView and can be controlled via Siri.
Through a partnership with LG Electronics, the company helped develop and engineer a smart doorbell, lock, thermostat and temperature sensor, as well as indoor and outdoor security cameras and a floodlight camera. Apple is also working with Schneider Electric SE on energy-related devices for the European market.
Together, these products form a smart home starter kit, which the company calls the “Apple Home Collection.”
As dev.ua recently wrote, Apple has officially confirmed the Welcome home presentation, which will take place on October 13. The event will be dedicated to the company’s new products for the smart home.
