A Ukrainian military officer created Arkanix, a service that allows system administrators to manage employee accounts and access through a browser. The idea arose from similar problems in civilian work and in the service
Ukrainian military serviceman and system administrator Ivan Slivnyak created Arkanix, a service that can help IT departments manage employee accounts, access, and perform other everyday system administration tasks in a single browser window. He told dev.ua about this. You can get acquainted with the service on the project website .

What Arkanix can do and who can benefit from it?
According to Ivan, Arkanix can be useful for IT departments of companies and institutions that use Active Directory, a Microsoft system for managing employee accounts, computers, and access to corporate resources. The service is designed for both small IT teams and large organizations working with multiple domains.
For example, let's say a company hires a new employee. In order for the employee to be able to work, the system administrator needs to create an account for the employee and set up access to the necessary applications and corporate resources.
Typically, an administrator has to configure the necessary accesses through Active Directory groups. But it’s easy to miss something in the process, and a new employee may not get one of the necessary accesses. With Arkanix, an administrator can take another accountant’s account as a model and copy its access groups for a new employee with one click.
You can also use the service to:
Help an employee who forgot their password A technical support specialist with appropriate rights can find his account by last name and reset the password.
Connect to an employee's computer without their password. If something doesn't work, technical support can, with the user's consent, connect to their screen and help remotely.
Give temporary access to the contractor. For example, allow him to remotely connect to your computer for a week. When that period expires, Arkanix will automatically revoke access.
Quickly prepare a report for management For example, find out how many computers in the company have not been used for a long time. In total, Arkanix has 32 ready-made reports, including inactive accounts, outdated computers, and access settings.
The service itself is installed on a server within the company's network. Therefore, employees do not need to install anything additional on their computers, and administrators only need a browser to work. According to the developer, corporate data remains within the company's network. In addition, Arkanix can work even without the Internet.
How the idea came about
Ivan Slivnyak has been working in IT for about seven years. During this time, he has worked as a system administrator in educational institutions and other civilian organizations, and currently serves in the Defense Forces of Ukraine, where he also performs tasks related to system administration.
"The situations are actually the same in both the army and civilian organizations: non-standard tasks come from the leadership, and there are not enough basic tools for them," the military man explains.
For example, management may ask to urgently change passwords for a large number of employees, remotely help someone with a computer, or find out how many accounts in the organization have not been used for a long time.
“Each such task took hours and additional resources,” says Ivan.
He began looking for tools that could make this job easier, but he ran into another problem: cost. According to him, the necessary solutions already existed on the market, but they were too expensive.
Then Ivan decided to create his own service that would combine the tools a system administrator needs in one place.
How much does the service cost and who already uses it?
The first version of Arkanix was developed in six months. Ivan involved other developers and a designer in the project, and also spent money on testing and equipment. He does not name the exact amount of expenses, but notes that most of the money went to the work of specialists.
Arkanix is just starting to find its customers. It is currently being tested by three organizations and one educational institution. According to Ivan, all of them are considering the possibility of further cooperation.
He plans to make money on Arkanix using a subscription model. Three plans are available on the project website:
Lite — $19 per month. For small IT teams: up to 300 accounts, basic administration tools, and 12 reports.
Pro — $49 per month. Up to 1,500 accounts, all 32 reports, remote employee assistance, and additional management tools.
Ultra — $99 per month. Unlimited accounts, multi-domain support, and temporary remote access with automatic cancellation.
The number of administrators is unlimited in all plans. You can also try the service for free for 14 days.
Ivan is not going to stop there. He is already working on the next version of Arkanix, in which he wants to add an interactive printer connection map and tools for finding and fixing Windows Server vulnerabilities. And next year he plans to supplement the project with other software tools so that the service turns into a whole set of solutions for system administrators.
