«Within 48 hours of the invasion (Russian-Ed.), Amazon physically transferred AWS Snowball devices to Ukrainian government agencies, and also helped with migration to the cloud. Ukraine was provided with access to 10 million gigabytes of cloud storage for storing backup copies of Ukrainian state registers,» the Ministry of Digital Affairs emphasized.
According to the ministry, among other foreign partners who provided their cloud services for Ukrainian state services: Microsoft Azure, Oracle, Google Cloud. Also, important assistance was provided to us by colleagues from the Polish government — Janusz Cieszynski (they deployed a separate infrastructure for the Tax Registry).
To minimize the threat of physical destruction of data centers, SE DIYA has also developed a technical solution that involves the use of disaster-resistant infrastructure. It is based on geographically dispersed data centers belonging to different cloud service providers and the reservation of Internet access channels obtained from different electronic communications operators.
«Diya also stores a copy of data and applications in AWS and makes daily backups from the production environment. In the event of data center failure due to military strikes or power outages, Diya can fully operate on AWS for 2 days,» the ministry emphasizes.
Recall that on April 2, we published an article stating that local Ukrainian providers began to state that the transfer of state data to international clouds, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, is a violation of state digital sovereignty.
