«Every drone in the world’s arsenal faces the same problem: as soon as it takes off, it becomes a target. Interceptor drones, FPV, kinetic C-UAS. Threats are evolving faster than the platforms themselves. And right now, most drones have no way to defend themselves. BaBayte is changing that. And we’re here for it, dammit!» wrote Justin Ziff, founding partner at Green Flag Ventures.
BaBayte was founded by Ukrainian entrepreneur Roman Karpenko, who heads the startup. The company’s main product is an artificial intelligence module called BabAI. According to Karpenko, it «forms the survival instinct in our machines.»
«BabAI doesn’t just react to threats — it anticipates them. Our system combines data from various sensors (EO/IR, LiDAR, radar) to predict threats before they even approach. We turn any platform into an intelligent autonomous device capable of surviving and operating in any weather conditions,» says the head of BaBayte.
Green Flag Ventures emphasizes that BabA was created in the field, where drones are being destroyed, and «the heroes who fly them need a solution that works now,» not after the next procurement cycle.
«We’ve been emphasizing this since 2022: For four years, Ukraine has been living in and defining the future of war. The rest of the world has just joined in. Drone survivability is the next critical level in that future, and Roman and his team are creating it,» says Justin Ziff.
It is currently unknown how much Green Flag Ventures invested in BaBayte, but the company typically writes checks ranging from $100,000 to $1 million. The fund invests in defense and dual-use startups, including Ukrainian ones.
In 2025, BaBayte participated in the IT Arena competition among miltech startups. The company took second place and received $10,000 in prize money.
