Ukrainians have created an application for tracking the development of a baby - without a server database and without collecting data. How "Malyatko" works
Ukrainian IT experts have released the app «Malyatko» on the App Store — a child development tracker from birth to two years old. Two people, zero development budget, personal motivation.
Ukrainian IT experts have released the app «Malyatko» on the App Store — a child development tracker from birth to two years old. Two people, zero development budget, personal motivation.
This was reported on LinkedIn by QA engineer Petro Pidkovych, who, according to him, worked on the application with a friend.
«The first laugh, joy, feelings, different emotions, surprise, crying… You can’t capture all the moments with a baby in your head. However, my friend and I realized something valuable where the whole story of the child will be in one place. When the baby grows up and becomes older, we can show the whole story: when mom or dad said, or just started singing auuu, important moments — teething, how many times a day they ate and pooped, how the baby’s development changed throughout the entire period,» he noted.
The application tracks the child’s development according to key parameters — emotions, speech, motor skills, social skills. The service also has reminders about daily tasks and important events, data sharing with loved ones via iCloud. Development graphs are exported to PDF — you can share them with your pediatrician or save them for yourself.
The team has abandoned the use of a server-side database and any monitoring. All data is stored locally on the phone via SQLite and synchronized via the user’s personal iCloud. The developers do not see any data about the child — a fundamental position for an application that stores information about infants.
The UI is minimalistic and calm. «Parents with a baby in their arms don’t have time to understand complex interfaces,» is the logic that is felt in the design.
