As Wired writes, it’s not just about technology — the public organization Project Open Hand simply can’t find volunteers to do this.

«It’s not even that the work is faster. It’s that we don’t have volunteers,» says Alma Cáceres, sous chef at Project Open Hand.

The process of creating medically adapted meal kits for patients can be complex, as different patients have different needs, and meals cannot be universal and must take into account precautions regarding allergies, people’s physical condition, and their calorie needs, so work came in handy when solving this problem.

Thus, machines from Chef Robotics from San Francisco were involved in performing the tasks.

Chef Robotics' partnership with Open Hand arose from a chance conversation between representatives of the organizations, and the robots are on lease with a subscription fee.

The robots are primarily used to distribute food on food trays, and human volunteers are involved in other, less monotonous tasks.

One way or another, as the public organization says, the presence of robots still does not compensate for the need for volunteers, and the NGO’s leadership, by investing in this technological experiment, hopes to gain attention from potential sponsors and encourage more people to volunteer.

Project Open Hand is a non-profit organization founded in 1985 by Ruth Brinker.

As dev.ua wrote, meanwhile, the Pentagon is testing CODiAQ assault dog robots with artificial intelligence.
