A self-driving taxi refused to take a passenger to the airport, instead driving in a circle in the parking lot. What ended with the "sabotage" of the car
Mike Jones was returning home to Los Angeles from Scottsdale, Arizona. He got into a Waymo robo-taxi, buckled up, and was supposed to head to the airport. But the taxi decided otherwise: it started driving in circles around the parking lot. The man filmed the entire adventure.
Jones called Waymo customer service. “I have to catch a plane. Why is this thing going in circles? I’m dizzy,” the man said. “It’s circling the parking lot. I’m wearing my seatbelt. I can’t get out of the car. Is it broken? What’s going on? I feel like I’m in a movie. Did someone play a prank on me?”
A Waymo representative asked Jones to use the company's app to try to stop the car, as she was apparently unable to drive. The video ends with the company representative saying that she was trying to stop Waymo.
Jones said Waymo drove around the parking lot a dizzying eight times before the problem was resolved.
The company later said, TechSpot reports , that Jones was only delayed for five minutes, that he was not charged for the ride, and that the software bug that caused the problem had been fixed. The company also says it tried to reach him via voicemail.
