«Projects are intelligent workspaces that keep everything related to long-term efforts in one place. Merge chats, upload help files, and add your own instructions to help ChatGPT remember important information and stay on topic,» describes Projects at OpenAI.
Essentially, it’s an opportunity to organize different AI chats into folders, but with group instructions, restrictions, and their own memory.
OpenAI also said that the update added:
To create a new project, click the corresponding button in the sidebar and choose a name and color for the chat group. After that, you can transfer existing chats to the project or create new ones.
Users can add custom instructions for a project by clicking the three dots in the top right corner. The instructions will tell the AI what responses are expected of it in these chats, for example: «Behave like my marketing mentor. Be concise. Use bulleted lists. Ask follow-up questions.»
«Projects have built-in memory, which means they remember all the chats and files you’ve created or uploaded to a project. Working in a project means ChatGPT won’t forget where you left off,» OpenAI notes.
