This is reported by Deadline, citing anonymous sources from The Information. It is noted that the current version of the TikTok platform in the United States is planned to be closed by March 2026.
US President Donald Trump recently said that a «group of very wealthy people» is in the running to acquire TikTok in the US. «We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way. I think I would need China’s approval, and I think President Xi would probably do it,» Trump said .
The TikTok ban saga in the US has been going on for a long time. The ban or sale of the platform to American businesses in the US was approved by Congress, signed by former President Joe Biden, and upheld by the Supreme Court earlier this year. The legal deadline for the shutdown or sale was January 19, the day before Trump took office. However, one of his first acts in office was to immediately suspend the law.
TikTok briefly stopped working in the US, but then resumed normal operations. The third and currently final extension of the ban by Trump is in effect until September 17. The new app is scheduled to launch in US marketplaces on September 5, before the third extension expires.
The potential deal with TikTok has been complicated by feuds with China in recent months amid Trump’s aggressive stance on trade, which has imposed tough tariffs on Chinese goods.
