The new registry allows individuals, as well as their legal representatives, agents, and managers, to clearly define the terms of use or completely prohibit AI developers from using their personal data. In the future, the developers plan to expand the platform’s functionality to allow users to protect their own artwork, characters, and brands.
«In the age of artificial intelligence, your identity is your intellectual property, and every person has the right to decide how AI can or cannot use it,» said Cate Blanchett, who is the co-founder of RSL Media.
MEP Eva Meydell called the initiative an important step that ensures transparency of rights, strengthens trust, and helps keep human creativity at the center of technological progress.
The decision is part of a long-running fight by the global creative community to protect copyright in the age of generative AI. Last March, Blanchett, along with Paul McCartney, Ben Stiller and hundreds of other artists, wrote an open letter to the White House, urging it not to weaken copyright protections under pressure from tech giants like OpenAI and Google. In addition, a growing number of musicians and actors around the world are expressing outrage that algorithms are being trained on their works without consent or compensation.
Blanchett launched RSL last May with the support of a number of Hollywood stars, including Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Javier Bardem. The organization’s main goal is to introduce mandatory author consent criteria before any use of their data by artificial intelligence algorithms.
