UPD. On Monday morning, April 14, Blue Origin successfully completed a suborbital flight of the New Shepard rocket with an all-female crew. The rocket took off from a spaceport in Texas, the flight lasted about 11 minutes and was fully automated. The rocket rose to an altitude of 105 km, that is, about five kilometers above the Cartman line — the conditional boundary between the Earth’s atmosphere and space.

This was the 31st flight for New Shepard, a reusable combination rocket-capsule. It was only the 11th crewed flight of New Shepard; the other missions were uncrewed research flights.
NS-31 will also be the first all-female spaceflight since June 16, 1963.
New Shepard missions last only 10 to 12 minutes from launch to landing, but the NS-31 crew will soar above the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of outer space, which is 62 miles (100 kilometers) above Earth. They will also experience a few minutes of weightlessness and see our planet against the black backdrop of space.
UPD. Blue Origin loads fuel into New Shepard. Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket uses a combination of liquid fuels:
Liquid hydrogen (LH₂) as fuel.
Liquid oxygen (LOX) — as an oxidizer.
This combination is used in the BE-3 engine that powers the launch vehicle. It is a highly efficient, clean-burning engine—the only byproduct is water vapor, making it environmentally friendly compared to many traditional rocket fuels.
Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft is a suborbital space travel vehicle that offers a unique experience for both scientific research and space tourism. Named after Alan Shepard, the first American in space, New Shepard is a fully reusable rocket system designed for human spaceflight.
The spacecraft consists of two main components: a reusable booster and a pressurized crew capsule. The capsule can accommodate six passengers, each of whom is given a window seat to enjoy breathtaking views of Earth. Among its features are the largest portholes ever flown in space, providing astronauts with an unprecedented visual experience. On Monday, Blue Origin will load fuel into New Shepard, which is entering its final phase of launch.
