Bluesky will verify authentic and well-known accounts and display a blue check mark next to their names. With the Trusted Verifiers feature, certain independent organizations can independently verify the accounts associated with them, and Bluesky will further check these verifications to ensure their authenticity. The company's announcement states.
For example, the New York Times can now issue blue ticks to its journalists directly in the app. When a user taps on a verified account’s blue tick, they’ll see which organizations have provided verification.
In 2023, Bluesky launched its first level of verification: allowing individuals and organizations to use their domain as a username. Since then, over 270,000 accounts have linked their Bluesky username to their website.
“Domain descriptors continue to be an important part of verification on Bluesky. At the same time, we heard from users that a greater visual signal would be helpful in knowing which accounts are real,” the social network website reported.
As dev.ua wrote, during 2024, when Bluesky became available to everyone, the social network's audience increased 9 times - from 2.89 million to 25.94 million users.
