Scooter rental service Bolt has launched a new feature in its app — a scooter riding style rating. The system evaluates a user’s behavior during each ride and rewards those who ride safely.
A high score unlocks bonuses, such as free booking minutes. Systematically unsafe behavior, on the other hand, leads to restrictions — a reduction in maximum speed or temporary blocking of access to the service.
During testing, over 90% of users said that the feature motivates them to drive safer, and almost six out of ten said that the bonuses influence their choice of service.
«The feature combines training, recognition, and encouragement: it helps users better understand what behavior is right and gently guides them towards safer practices,» notes Anton Milka, Head of Bolt’s Sharing Services Development Department in Ukraine.
You can view your rating in the «Trip Technique» section. The rating is updated after each trip: careful driving and correct parking increase it, while sudden braking, collisions, or improper parking decrease it.
The rating works in conjunction with other safety features: geofences with reduced speed, no-parking zones, cognitive tests to prevent drunk driving, and sensors to detect scooter misuse.
