Bolt permanently blocks driver who caused fatal accident in Kyiv and tightens control rules

The culprit of the fatal traffic accident that occurred on June 5 in the Solomyanskyi district of the capital was fulfilling an order from the Bolt service. In response to the tragedy, the company announced stricter rules: from now on, drivers will be blocked after two complaints about speeding or aggressive driving.
Let us remind you that on June 5, a large-scale traffic accident occurred on Chokolivskyi Boulevard: a 49-year-old driver of a Mercedes car drove into an underpass with people at high speed, resulting in the deaths of a 12-year-old boy, a 47-year-old woman, and two police officers aged 21 and 23. Two more men and a woman with injuries of varying severity were hospitalized, and the perpetrator of the accident was detained by law enforcement officers under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
As Serhiy Pavlyk, Bolt's general manager in Ukraine, told Suspilny in a comment, at the time of the accident, the driver had active access to the platform and was in the process of making a trip with a passenger, but immediately after clarifying all the circumstances of the tragedy, the company permanently blocked his account.
"The driver's account was permanently blocked immediately after we became aware of the initial circumstances of the accident. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies in this case and maintaining contact with the passenger, helping her receive the necessary assistance," the Bolt press service noted in Thereads.
In addition, the company revised its internal response procedures following this tragedy, permanently restricting access to the platform for drivers who have at least two complaints about speeding or dangerous driving.
"We consider such requests as a priority. In parallel, our team is working on expanding the functionality of the application to strengthen control over compliance with traffic rules," the company added.
Earlier, dev.ua reported that in Kyiv, road safety has almost overtaken the threat from enemy air strikes . According to official data from the KMVA, in 2025, 171 people died in Kyiv as a result of Russian missile and drone attacks, including 13 children. At the same time, 145 people died in road accidents on the capital's roads during the same period. In terms of population, this amounts to 4.6–5.7 deaths per 100,000 residents from shelling versus 3.9–4.8 from road accidents.
Uber
Uklon
