Bolt, Vevi and Jet.ua will remove scooters from Chernivtsi: the city council gave 14 days

Operators must remove scooters, charging stations, and other infrastructure from city streets within 14 days, following complaints from residents about chaotic parking and traffic violations.

On August 10, the Chernivtsi City Council terminated memorandums with electric scooter rental operators Bolt, Vevi, and Jet.ua. The companies must remove the scooters and all infrastructure for their maintenance from city streets within 14 days. Zaxid.net reports.

The relevant decision was voted on at the session. 22 deputies .

The reason for terminating the memorandums was numerous complaints from city residents. In particular, they are talking about chaotic parking of electric scooters and violations of road safety rules by their users.

Within the established deadline, operators must remove scooters from the streets, dismantle charging stations and other equipment, and vacate urban amenities.

If the companies do not comply with the requirements within 14 days, the scooters will be moved to a temporary storage area. There are currently no other electric scooter rental operators in the Chernivtsi community.

Chernivtsi has become another city that has decided to restrict the operation of electric scooter rental services. In different years, restrictions on the use or rental of electric scooters have been introduced, in particular, in Paris, Madrid, Piatra Neamt, Prague, Barcelona, London and Rome.

In Ukraine, in 2025, Ivano-Frankivsk became the first city to ban the movement of electric scooters in the central part of the city.

At the national level, attempts were made to regulate the rules for light personal electric vehicles back in 2020. Then the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 3023 in the first reading. It provided for the emergence of a separate category of road users — users of personal light electric vehicles — and a ban on the movement of such vehicles on sidewalks. It was also proposed to oblige users to equip electric vehicles with reflectors and use helmets. However, after public discussion, the draft law did not reach the second reading. Electric scooters are already recognized as vehicles, but there are still no separate comprehensive rules for their use in Ukraine.

The safety issue remains one of the main arguments in the discussion around the regulation of electric scooters. According to the patrol police, from January to May 2026, 353 road accidents with victims involving electric scooters, unicycles and gyro scooters occurred in Ukraine. In these accidents, 390 people were injured, including 168 children — almost 45% of the total number of victims. Five more people died.
