The US, Denmark, the Netherlands and Ukraine are developing a homing missile-bomb for the Ukrainian Armed Forces that could sink ships. The project with a range of 453 km is expected to be completed next year.
The American military is working on creating a rocket bomb for the Ukrainian Armed Forces with an expected range of 463 km.
The basic terms of the contract, which are publicly available, stipulate that the product should be ready by 2026, and production volumes will be 1,000 units per year. In addition to the United States itself, Ukraine, Denmark, and the Netherlands are involved in the development of the product.
According to The War Zone, the project has now reached the stage where the question of choosing a guidance system for the munition has arisen. In particular, it may be a system that does not depend on GPS navigation. That is why the Quicksink homing head is mentioned, which combines radar and infrared technology. Previously, the Quicksink system has already proven itself well on the GBU-31/B JDAM bombs, as invulnerable to electronic warfare.
However, the problem is the extremely high price. The Quicksink system costs $200,000 per unit, but the Americans hope to reduce it to at least $50,000 per unit.
Ukraine is developing its own air defense system against the Russian «Oreshnik» and a new missile system that could deter the Russians from launching such weapons
