Ukrainian developer Oleksiy Gudkov created Bookplex — a free web reader for those who want to read books in English without constantly jumping between the text, the translator, and the dictionary. You can look up the translation of unfamiliar sentences right in the application, and then save new vocabulary to the dictionary and consolidate it in exercises and mini-games.

The application has a large catalog of books - 4101 pages. You can choose any book, and its text will open in English. You can even download a book from your own library. Then just click on a word or sentence to view the translation. The translation is machine-generated, so in some cases there may be inaccuracies. And if you click on a word, you can not only see its translation, but also hear the pronunciation.
The developer also added gamification. For reading and completing games, the user receives XP, can compete with friends in the rating and open achievements. Among them, according to Gudkov, there are also hidden "Easter eggs", that is, secret awards, the conditions for which the application does not give any clues.
For saved words, Bookplex has five mini-games. You can look for a pair between an English word and a translation, quickly determine whether the translation is correct, insert missing words into sentences, write words by ear, or assemble sentences from jumbled parts
In the game "get the word" the answer options are pulled from the user's own dictionary, so sometimes the combinations are quite funny. For example, in the sentence "A cat likes people he knows, but he ___ around strangers" the app offers to choose between the words thickset ("stocky"), flock ("flock"), skittish ("shy") and brewing ("the one who is brewing").
