The Chernihiv District Court has issued a verdict in a high-profile case regarding the tragic death of two IT specialists, Vladyslav Kasner and Yevheniy Ivanov, who in 2021 became victims of electric shock in the Brech tourist and hotel complex.

On August 15, 2021, two employees of an IT company from Chernihiv died while on vacation in the Brech complex. According to eyewitnesses, one of the men felt sick near an artificial waterfall and began to drown. The second man rushed to help, but, according to witnesses, he was also electrocuted, after which he went to the bottom. Resuscitation measures, which lasted about an hour, were unsuccessful. According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, the cause of death of both men was electric shock.
On June 23, 2026, the court found two former employees of the complex guilty of the tragedy, reports «Suspilne». The director of PG «Brech» LLC was sentenced to 6 years in prison. He is also prohibited from holding positions related to high-risk work for three years. Until the verdict comes into force, he will be at home under personal obligation.
The power engineer was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he was sentenced to 2 years of restriction of liberty, but due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, he was released from punishment.
In addition, the court ruled to recover from PG «Brech» LLC more than 27.5 million hryvnias as compensation to the relatives of the deceased, as well as 10,000 hryvnias for procedural costs for legal assistance from each defendant.
The investigation established violations of the rules for operating electrical appliances in the complex. It is known that five months before the tragedy, the regional State Emergency Service found violations related to the installation and use of electrical equipment on the territory of the complex. The case was considered in Chernihiv after the victims expressed no confidence in the court in Koryukivka.
The verdict can be appealed to the court of appeal within 30 days.
