The developer announced the release of version 1.4 and technical details of the project on Reddit. According to him, the application is aimed at content creators who create spoken-word videos and edit them on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Captions Bro combines the functions of speech recognition, video editor and teleprompter. Transcription works locally and supports the Ukrainian language, in particular, adding punctuation marks, removing parasitic words and correcting individual words. Subtitles can be stylized as karaoke, change fonts, colors, add strokes and shadows.
In addition to working with audio and text, the app features a multi-track timeline for full-fledged editing. Users can trim clips, change playback speed and direction, add masks, keyframes, filters, and apply background removal and noise reduction features. The app also has a built-in teleprompter that allows you to read the script directly while shooting.
"Preview during scrubbing, playback in the editor, and final export use the same render 'recipes', so what you see in the editor matches the export pixel for pixel," the developer notes.
The Swift codebase of the project exceeds 180,000 lines and contains over 460 test files. The new SpeechAnalyzer framework is used for transcription on iOS 26+, and SFSpeechRecognizer for older versions of the OS. The project name is automatically generated by Apple Intelligence based on what is said in the video.
Captions Bro is distributed on a freemium model. The free version provides access to all editing tools without advertising banners or watermarks, but limits simultaneous work on one project. The Pro subscription costs $3.99 per month or $17.99 per year and removes the limit on the number of projects, adding synchronization via iCloud.
