“We save on everything that does not affect flight characteristics.” Fire Point CEO explained why “door hinges from Epicenter in the Flamingo design are a good solution”

CEO and CTO of Fire Point Iryna Terek noted that the company chooses parts for its drones and missiles that are cheaper and more readily available on the market, but can only afford to save on those components that do not affect flight characteristics.

She said this during the Brave1 Advantage event.

«We have developed a Talmud for each product, which is called the „Album of Permissible Deviations“. And, in fact, this book divides absolutely every detail of an airplane or rocket according to a simple principle: does it affect the flight characteristics, or does it not affect them. Everything that belongs to the second category — we save on that,» she explained, answering the host’s question.

She mentioned that the design of the Flamingo rocket uses a fairly simple detail that resembles the «door hinges from Epicenter,» which were once ridiculed by social media users.

Meanwhile, according to Terek, using such a simple and somewhat awkward detail was a conscious decision by the company.

«The fact is that the hinges are always available at Epicenter, 24/7, and you order special aviation holders from America, their sale is regulated, you have to wait quite a long time for them and they are not always available,» she explained using an analogy.

According to Iryna Terek, rocket experts might have been somewhat ashamed of such a detail, and as an architect in the pre-war profession, she even shares this shame.

«As an architect in my previous life, I really want to make beautiful and truly aesthetic products. But today I think the most aesthetic is when a missile lands on target on time and does its job. There is no better aesthetic,» said the director of Fire Point.

She added that if some «shameful» detail does not affect the characteristics of a missile or drone, but does affect the speed of iteration, then Fire Point will be ready to «stick» it.

As a reminder, earlier, CEO & CTO of Fire Point Iryna Terek reported that their staff currently has almost 5,000 employees, and the company has extensive experience in employing people who have no connection to the defense industry, but, nevertheless, find their place in the industry.
