The number of technical specialists in Ukrainian IT is decreasing, with software developers affected the most — their share dropped from 44% to 37% over the year

Currently, 84% of all IT professionals in Ukraine are technical specialists (which is 4 percentage points less than last year), while the share of non-technical specialists has increased to 16% (an increase of 4 pp). The market remains difficult for developers, and the trend towards an increase in the share of non-technical areas continues to strengthen.

The biggest declines and growth trends

According to the DOU study, the biggest changes over the year directly affected developers: their share among all IT professionals decreased from 44% to 37% (a total decrease of 7 pp over the past year). A small drop was also recorded among testers (QA) — their share in the sample is 16% compared to 17,6% last year.

At the same time, the shares of other areas in the market structure have increased. In particular, the following demonstrate positive dynamics:

analysts;
HR specialists and recruiters;
support specialists;
project managers;
marketers.

Top 10 largest categories in IT

According to the results of the analysis, the structure of the Ukrainian IT community by specialization was distributed as follows:

SE & Architecture — 37%;
QA — 16%;
Analytics — 6%;
HR, Recruiting, L&D — 5%;
Project Management — 5%;
DevOps & SRE — 4%;
DS / AI / ML / Data Engineering — 3%;
Marketing — 3%;
Product Management — 3%;
UI/UX / Product Design — 2%.
