Meta AI chatbot gets confused with US presidents: what's the matter?

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg donated $1 million to the inaugural fund and then attended the event where Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. But Zuckerberg apparently forgot to explain the change to Meta AI’s chatbot, which still thinks Joe Biden is running the country.
Republican Donald Trump was inaugurated on Monday, replacing Democrat Joe Biden as president. However, on Thursday, the Meta AI chatbot was still claiming Biden was the president, Reuters reports .
Asked by Reuters on Thursday to name the president, Meta AI responded: "The current President of the United States is Joe Biden. However, according to the latest available information, Donald Trump was sworn in as President on January 20, 2025."
The situation prompted Meta to initiate an emergency procedure it uses to resolve urgent issues with its services, known within the company as SEV, its own sources told Reuters.
When asked for comment, company spokesman Daniel Roberts said: “We know that President Trump is the president of the United States. Everyone knows that Donald Trump is the president of the United States. All generative AI systems sometimes produce outdated results, and we will continue to improve our features.”
He did not comment on what, if any, emergency procedures Meta had implemented. According to a Reuters source, this was at least the third emergency procedure Meta had undergone this week in connection with the change of US president.
