OpenAI has launched a new feature in ChatGPT called Pulse, which generates personalized reports for users while they sleep. The company wants to encourage people to check ChatGPT as soon as they wake up, like they would with social media or news apps.

Pulse will provide 5-10 short reports in the morning. These can be overviews of news articles on a specific topic — for example, updates on a specific sports team — as well as more personalized summaries based on the user’s context, writes TechCrunch.
In a demo for TechCrunch, OpenAI product manager Adam Fry showed off several reports that Pulse had prepared for him: a news roundup about the British soccer team Arsenal; Halloween costume suggestions for his wife and kids; and an itinerary for an upcoming family trip to Sedona, Arizona.
Each report is displayed as a “card” containing AI-generated images and text. Users can click on each one to get the full report, and then query ChatGPT for its content. Pulse will proactively generate some reports, but users can also request new automated reports or provide feedback on existing ones.
A key feature of Pulse is that it stops after generating a few reports and displays a message saying, “Great, that’s it for today.” According to Fry, this is a deliberate design decision to differentiate the service from social media apps optimized for user engagement.
Pulse is compatible with ChatGPT connectors, so users can connect apps like Google Calendar and Gmail. Once set up, Pulse will analyze email overnight to display the most important messages in the morning, or access your calendar to create an agenda for upcoming events.
If users have ChatGPT memory features enabled, Pulse will also extract context from previous chats to improve reporting.
Starting Thursday, OpenAI launched Pulse to subscribers of its $200-a-month Pro plan, for whom it will appear as a new tab in the ChatGPT app. The company says it would like to launch Pulse to all ChatGPT users in the future.
