A checklist for effective interview preparation from an experienced IT Talent Acquisition Manager

Anna Dubovik, Talent Acquisition Manager in IT, has compiled a checklist for IT workers preparing for an interview.

«This fall, for the first time in three years, I was on the other side of an interview — and it was an incredible experience! I am sincerely glad to meet each recruiter and company. I’m sharing with you a checklist for doing your homework before the interview,» she wrote .

  1. Study the job: carefully read the requirements and duties. This will help to understand which skills are important to emphasize during communication.
  2. Research the company: check out the website, profiles on DOU, LinkedIn, Glassdoor. Pay attention to employee and candidate feedback, especially on topics that interest you (such as company culture or processes).
  3. Prepare questions: make a list of topics that are important to you, such as development, team, KPIs or possible challenges. This will demonstrate your interest and proactivity.
  4. View the interviewer’s profile: Find them on LinkedIn. It is especially relevant if this is a future manager or team leader — get acquainted with his experience and qualifications.
  5. Refresh your knowledge: brush up on key skills or learn about new tools mentioned in the job posting.
  6. Prepare case studies: Think about your achievements that match the requirements of the role. Ready-made examples will help show your expertise.
  7. Check contacts: you may know someone who has worked or cooperated with this company — their opinion may be useful.
  8. Update Online Profiles: Make sure your LinkedIn and CV are up-to-date with your achievements and skills.
  9. Explore the company’s social media: If you have time, check out posts and interviews with the CEO and employees to better understand the company’s culture and approach to work.
  10. Store information: Use Google Sheets, Docs, or Notes to store company data (cover letter, resume information, terms and conditions, recruiter responses). This will help structure the search process and simplify the choice.

«I hope this post will help those who are currently looking for a job and will be useful in their preparation,» she said.
