Ukrainian company General Chereshnya has purchased the Kyiv apartment of Russian designer and propagandist Artemy Lebedev at a state auction. The new owners plan to transform the nationalized property into a space for the development of modern Ukrainian culture.
The company’s representatives announced this on their official social media page. The funds received from the privatization will be sent directly to the Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of Russia’s Armed Aggression.
The confiscated property is located in the historic center of the capital near the Golden Gates. Previously, this property belonged to Lebedev, who openly supports Russian aggression against Ukraine and in 2022 illegally visited the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP in Energodar.
Who is Artemy Lebedev and why is his property up for auction?
Artemy Lebedev is a famous Russian designer, blogger and founder of the Artemy Lebedev Studio. Before the Revolution of Dignity, his company was actively working on the Ukrainian market, had an office in Kyiv and developed designs for domestic brands. However, Lebedev himself consistently demonstrated a Ukrainophobic position, publicly justified Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014, calling it a «perfect operation», and spread Kremlin narratives.
Due to anti-Ukrainian activities, the SBU banned him from entering the country back in 2017. In early 2022, the NSDC imposed personal sanctions against the designer for five years, which included the blocking of all his assets in Ukraine. Later, in January 2023, the entry ban was extended to ten years.
After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, Lebedev continued to illegally visit the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including Donetsk and Mariupol, and also climbed onto the roof of the sixth power unit of the captured Zaporizhzhia NPP. For this, the Security Service of Ukraine officially declared him under suspicion.
In July 2023, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (SAC) satisfied the claim of the Ministry of Justice and confiscated Lebedev’s assets to the state revenue — two apartments in the center of Kyiv with an area of 138.5 sq. m and 193.2 sq. m. It was this confiscated property that the State Property Fund of Ukraine put up for privatization auctions to replenish the recovery budget.
What is the new owner planning?
«It was absolutely fundamental for us to take away his apartment for the public good. We returned the apartment, and we will return Energodar,» the company «General Chereshnya» emphasized.
The buyers also expressed their gratitude to the State Property Fund of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice, and specialized specialists who ensured the legal process of seizing the propagandist’s assets in favor of the state. They promise to publish detailed plans for the functioning of the future cultural space later.
Previously, HRD «General Chereshnya» Andriy Lavrynovych said that the company had purchased apartments and a car several times for employees whose homes had been visited by a «shaheed».
