Matrix was founded by Hamed Mohammadpour, a former PostHog team member who studied machine learning at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Nima Naderi, a prizewinner at the International Olympiad in Informatics and former Bending Spoons engineer.
The company is currently backed by angel investors from MIT, DeepMind, and Lovable, as well as former Apple and Klarna employees.
«Matrix is a permanent place for your files, tools, projects, and artificial intelligence. It is accessible from any laptop, phone, or browser, but does not depend on whether any of them remain open,» the startup noted.
Matrix provides users with a personal computing environment in the cloud.
«Your chosen context and tools are there, so your AI can continue a task after you step away, pick it up from another device, and return with your work ready to review,» Matrix assures.
Another advantage of Matrix is that the quality and power of your equipment does not matter, because the work takes place in the cloud.
The startup adds that the user decides what the AI can see, what tools it can use, and which workspaces it can access.
«Bill Gates helped put a PC on every desk. I want to give everyone a personal cloud computer (PCC). It’s one computer that follows you, across all your devices, carries your chosen context, and remains available to your AI and employees 24/7. With Matrix, the computer belongs to the person, not the device,» said Matrix co-founder Hamed Mohammadpour.
More than 1,500 people have reportedly joined the Matrix waitlist ahead of the product launch. Matrix is initially launching for developers, designers, and AI teams, but the goal is to expand to all users.
It is also known that this is the founders' second joint product after the previous tool Molty.
As dev.ua previously wrote, OpenAI is currently testing a mode in which Codex will search for new tasks on its own.
