For people with "office syndrome": a marketer has launched a free Chrome extension that saves from the consequences of sedentary work
Ilona Alexandrova, Growth & Marketing Project Manager, was tired of “computer neck” and decided to find a solution that would be comfortable for her. With the help of Claude, she created a Chrome extension that reminds her to take breaks with evidence-based exercises for the neck, shoulders, back, and eyes. Every hour, “Warm Up” opens a separate tab with 2–3 carefully selected exercises for one specific body area.
Inspired by the “reminder” of exercises by IT expert Ivan Sprut , Ilona decided to create her own version, adapted to her needs. It all started with creating an HTML page for herself, and ended with a public extension for Chrome. For the marketer, this was her first experience of coding with the help of AI. Now she has taken up HTML to learn English.
How the extension works
The "Warm-up" Chrome extension opens a separate tab with 2-3 exercises for one area of the body (neck, shoulders, lower back, eyes) every 45–60 minutes, starts a pause timer, and rewards you with a short jingle and phrase for completing it.
In addition, the extension has the following capabilities:
All 20 exercises are from reputable medical sources: AAOS, NHS, Cleveland Clinic, American Optometric Association, Harvard Health. Each exercise is linked to the original source.
Safety by default: Exercises that the AAOS warns against in case of pinched nerves (full head rotations, looking at the ceiling with a tilt, etc.) are deliberately excluded. This is extremely important for people with “office” symptoms.
Only 2–3 exercises per break, not 10: Studies show that people often skip large sets of exercises.
100% local: no analytics, servers, or tracking. All data is stored on the user's computer.
Ukrainian and English languages are available.
Free — forever, Ilona assures.
The role of AI: what was the most difficult?
Ilona implemented absolutely everything — from architecture to 20 exercises, gamification, weekly reports with graphs, and CSV export — with the help of an AI assistant.
I wanted to have an extension that would cover common problems of a sedentary lifestyle (low back, eye, back and shoulder pain). First I created a regular HTML page. Everything seemed to be okay, but I couldn’t share it with anyone or pin it - I was afraid of closing it and not finding it later. So I described my idea to Claude. That’s how I created the first version of the extension, which was initially only available in developer mode (purely for me).
Later, Ilona had the idea to add funny images about marketing and project management, which she did. Since she often works in different Chrome profiles and may simply not notice the visual notification, the developer added a sound signal.
Within a day, it became clear that manually launching the extension every morning would quickly get boring, so the application now has the ability to set a work schedule.
After that, Ilona decided to try publishing the project. She paid a $5 fee, and Claude prepared all the necessary texts for certification and even created graphics for the marketplace.
According to her, preparing materials for moderation in the Google Web Store turned out to be the most difficult stage, while adding memes and quotes after the exercises was the easiest.
The entire process from the first idea to the release in the extension store took 8 days, and this is taking into account the fact that Ilona has a full-time job and worked on the project in her free time.
Ilona didn't stop there: "I've just created an HTML page for learning English. I'm thinking about how to improve this process, because it's a bit "laggy."
Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
