This integration into GitHub Copilot is deployed in various interfaces, including a web platform, mobile apps for iOS and Android, and a command line interface, Neowin writes .
Notably, this came less than ten days after OpenAI GPT-5.3-Codex , which is also a programming agent, was added to GitHub Copilot.
Access to the new model is limited to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. It is currently being rolled out in a phased manner. For enterprise accounts, administrators will need to manually enable the Claude Sonnet 4.6 policy in Copilot settings to grant access to users.
Leaving the task of manually enabling the model to administrators ensures that organizations have control over model usage and security policy compliance. It also allows teams to select the best LLM based on the technical requirements of a specific task.
Claude Sonnet 4.6 is available in Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio. Currently, requests are charged at a standard 1x premium request multiplier, but these terms are temporary and may change in the future.
This launch is a positive step for developers, who can now switch between leading AI models directly within their development environment. Sonnet 4.6’s specialized search and agent capabilities are expected to streamline workflows that include navigating large code bases and automatically delegating tasks.
