In a large thread on the r/ClaudeAI subreddit, one user reported finding a feature in the code that looked like a Tamagotchi, a popular 90s toy that featured a virtual pet that had to be constantly monitored to stay alive.
«There’s a whole pet system called /buddy. When you type this, you hatch a unique ASCII companion based on your user ID. The animal sits next to the input field and reacts to your code,» the user claimed.
He noted that he found 18 different species of animals, including a duck, a dragon, and a capybara, as well as a rarity system similar to that found in gacha games, which assigns the user an animal based on randomness.
According to the dataminer, it’s unlikely that Anthropic is seriously considering adding this functionality, as he also found the string «friend-2026-401.» Apparently, the company planned to release its version of Tamagotchi as an April Fool’s joke.
Users digging into the merged code also claim to have found a «hidden» mode that is supposed to mask Claude’s AI entity when adding code to public repositories. Another potential feature is mood tracking, measuring a programmer’s «frustration» levels based on their messages and prompts, including increased use of profanity.
Recall that an error during the publication of the package led to the leakage of the internal code of the Claude Code tool. Approximately 500,000 lines of code and about 2,000 TypeScript files became publicly available. The cause was an incorrectly compiled npm package, which left service files that allow you to restore the full structure of the project.
